A 35-year-old Arlington man who was struck by a vehicle while walking died in the operating room of Medical City Arlington on Wednesday after spending 10 days in the hospital, authorities say.

The accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the 1900 block of East Park Row Drive near the intersection of New York Avenue, police said.

Michael Airheart of Arlington was traveling in the right lane when he was struck by a vehicle. He was not in a crosswalk or wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver, who police did not name, stopped and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected to be filed, police said.

Airheart was transported to Medical City Arlington, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner. He died shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the operating room.

His mother, Betty Airheart, said Friday that Michael Airheart was an organ donor who has “already helped two people.”

Two patients have received his kidneys, she said.

“He gave the ultimate gift,” she said.
