Arlington police identify suspect shot during burglary

A suspect who was wounded by Arlington police after they said he tried to run over them during a burglary has been identified as Adrian Phillips of Fort Worth, police said Wednesday.

Phillips, 35, was in the Arlington City Jail on Wednesday, facing charges of attempted capital murder, burglary of a habitation and evading arrest. Additional charges could be filed, police said.

The Fort Worth man was taken to a local hospital after the Tuesday afternoon shooting and released a short time later.

Property taken from the burglary was recovered when Phillips was arrested, police said.

A woman called 911 at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday to report an intruder in her house in the 5700 block of Longhorn Lane in southwest Arlington. She was hiding in the back of the house, Arlington police said.

Officers walking up to the house saw a man leave the house and get in a black car in the driveway. He backed out of the driveway and drove toward the officers, authorities said.

At least one officer fired and hit the car, police said.

The driver took off toward Fort Worth and Arlington police called Fort Worth police with descriptions of the driver and vehicle, Arlington police said.

Fort Worth officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Slim Ridge Road at 2:40 p.m. in east Fort Worth near Lake Arlington. They found a man with a gunshot wound, Sgt. Steve Enright, Fort Worth police said.

Fort Worth police determined that the injured individual was related to the shooting in Arlington.
