UTA student kidnapped, raped at gunpoint, police say

A University of Texas at Arlington student was kidnapped early Wednesday as she arrived home and then raped at gunpoint, UTA police say.

The woman reported the assault to UTA police early Wednesday after her assailant got out of her vehicle and she drove home.

The attack occurred about 3 a.m. near the Midtown Apartments, 1121 UTA Blvd., police said.

The woman told authorities she was walking to her residence when she was approached by a man armed with a handgun.

The gunman forced her into her car and ordered her to drive to an ATM, where she withdrew an undisclosed amount of money, UTA police said in a news release.

At some point during the encounter, the woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint, UTA police said.

After the assault, the gunman forced the woman to drive to a convenience store and ordered her to withdraw more money from an ATM, police said.

The woman then drove the suspect to an undisclosed location, where he got out of the vehicle, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 20 years old with a thin build.

Arlington detectives are investigating.
