Teens detained for messages threatening to shoot up Arlington schools

Arlington police arrested two students, one at Arlington High School and another at Workman Junior High School, who are accused of threatening to shoot up the schools "like Florida."

Officers made one arrest, of a 16-year-old Arlington High student, for allegedly making a threat on Instagram toward the school, according to Lt. Chris Cook, police spokesman..

On Tuesday, officers responded to three graffiti postings where a marker was used to indicate that a shooting would take place at Arlington High, Cook said.

A 16-year old girl was initially taken into custody but was subsequently released to parents for further investigation, Cook said in an emailed statement.

Later Tuesday afternoon, police detained a juvenile at Workman Junior High for saying to other students that he would shoot the school up, Cook said. That student was taken into custody without incident, Cook said.

A day after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, left 17 dead last week, a 13-year-old at Nichols Junior High was detained for making a similar threat.
