A teen shot to death after breaking into a home was identified Friday as Nathyn Tealer of Arlington, according to police and the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Tealer, 18, died in the emergency room at Medical Center of Arlington shortly after the shooting.

Patrol officers responded to a burglary and shooting call at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Highcrest Drive.

The homeowner told officers that he heard a loud noise at the back of his home, Sgt. Paul Rodriguez said in a news release.

“When he went to investigate, he encountered two unknown men,” Rodriguez said. “The homeowner shot at the two men who had forced entry into his home.”

The second man fled. Officers combed the neighborhood and detained a man who might be involved in the burglary. He was later released, police said Friday, and was not arrested or charged.

Police continue to investigate.
