Bicyclist hit, killed by tow truck on Arlington street
A bicyclist was hit and killed Monday evening after he was hit by a tow truck on a city street, police said.
Initially, the tow truck drove away from the scene, but the vehicle returned when the driver realized their was damage to his truck.
The victim was identified as Edward Weston, 37, of Valley View, according to the Tarrant County medical exmainer's website on Tuesday. Weston died at 6:58 p.m. Monday at an Arlington hospital.
Patrol officers responded to a crash investigation about 6:35 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of N. Collins St.
An ambulance crew driving in the area notified police after seeing a man who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle lying in the street, police said.
A bicycle was nearby.
Investigators said they believe the tow truck was stopped at Harrison Avenue facing west and turned southbound on North Collins Street.
At that point, the tow truck hit the bicycle, police said.
The driver has been cooperating with detectives, police said.
Detectives are continuing to examine the street, reviewing statements made by the driver and checking for any surveillance video footage in that neighborhood that may have captured the crash.
