Elderly man dies in Arlington apartment fire
A 79-year-old man died overnight in an apartment fire on New York Avenue in central Arlington that may have been caused by a candle lit during Saturday’s power outage, officials said.
A woman in the apartment at the Manhattan Park Townhomes in the 2200 block of New York Avenue was taken to Medical Center Arlington and then to the Parkland Burn Center in Dallas, said Lt. Lee Tovar, an Arlington Fire Department spokesman. She is believed to be the man’s wife. Her condition was not immediately known.
A storm that blew through Dallas-Fort Worth on Saturday night resulted in power outages affecting thousands, mostly in Tarrant County.
The fire at the apartment complex was reported at 11:36 p.m. and was confined to the one unit, Tovar said in an e-mail. A Fire Department investigation will make the final determination of the cause.
The identity of the man who died was not immediately released.
