Her car hit a gas line and burst into flames. Watch officers save her

Three Grand Prairie police officers are being recognized for saving a woman from a burning car in September.

Officers Daniel Basile and Roy Gray and Detective Chris Godby were named officers of the month for November, police said Thursday.

Police on Thursday also released video of the incident, which happened about midnight on Sept. 14. The woman had crashed her car on Southeast 14th Street, striking a gas line and a telephone pole.

When officers arrived, the front of the woman’s car appeared to be engulfed in flames, according to an officer’s bodycam footage. She was also unconscious, police said.

Basile and Godby rushed to the driver-side window and pulled the woman out of the car, getting her away from the fire. Gray stayed by the car to contain the fire until firefighters arrived.

The officers will also receive a lifesaving award for their efforts, police said.
