Benbrook motorcyclist ID’d in Grand Prairie crash

A motorcyclist killed earlier this week when he attempted to flee police has been identified as William Jones, 22, of Benbrook, police said late Thursday.

Jones was thrown off his motorcycle after his vehicle collided with a car Tuesday night, police said. He was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he died.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Grand Prairie woman, was taken to Medical Center of Arlington with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A 1-year-old child in the car was uninjured.

The crash occurred about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday at Belt Line Road and Grand Prairie Road.

A patrol officer observed the motorcyclist traveling at high speed on Belt Line Road near Pioneer Parkway and attempted to pull it over.

The motorcyclist fled north on Belt Line Road, ran a red light and collided with the 2010 Pontiac.

It was the third traffic fatality in the city this year.

The wreck remains under investigation.
