An inmate who collapsed in an isolation cell at the Arlington jail on Monday remained hospitalized on Thursday, police said.

Jonathan Ryan Paul, 42, was taken into custody after officers were called to Paul’s apartment in the 300 block of East Mitchell Street on a disturbance call, according to an Arlington police news release.

When officers arrived, they heard Paul yelling and saw broken windows, the release said. Officers were told Paul had been throwing items out of an upstairs apartment window.

Officers determined Paul was wanted on multiple misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested after officers made several attempts to speak with him, the release said.

Paul was described as agitated and noncompliant at the Arlington jail, and detention officers restrained him and put him in an isolation cell, the release said.

Moments later, officers saw that he had become unresponsive and for an ambulance. He was taken to Arlington Memorial Hospital where he was in the intensive care unit on Thursday, the release said.

An administrative and criminal investigation is being conducted, the release said. Police have video of the area where Paul was being held but will not release it until the investigation is complete, according to the release.
