Traveling for the holidays? Find out where to get a COVID-19 test in Tarrant County

As friends and family prepare to gather for the second winter holiday season of the coronavirus pandemic — and with the omicron variant detected in nearly all 50 states — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises testing for COVID-19 to prevent spreading the virus to others.

Fort Worth offers free saliva testing Monday-Friday at the parking lot of the TEXRail Northside Station, located at 3001 Decatur Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are not needed for the tests, and insurance is not required. Those receiving a test at this location do not need to leave their vehicle.

There are 14 COVID-19 testing locations listed on the Tarrant County website. Locations vary in testing times, and some are walk-in based while others are administered via drive-thru.

Testing at the Tarrant County locations is free, and a valid photo ID is required. Appointments for some of the county testing locations are not required but encouraged. Test results are available the same evening or the next afternoon in most cases, according to the website.

For those who wish to test in the comfort of their own home, pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS sell at-home COVID-19 tests in-store and online.

Vaccinations, masks and social distancing are also recommended by the CDC for the holiday season.
