Dallas County reports 160 new COVID-19 cases, supports keeping bars closed in college towns
Dallas County reported 165 coronavirus cases and six new deaths on Saturday.
Only 160 of the cases reported are new. Five of the cases were left over from previous testing in July and August that was conducted by the Department of State Health Services, which is still adding cases that went unreported since confirming a glitch in the system in early August.
The county now has 75,052 cases including 970 confirmed deaths, according to a Dallas County press release.
The new deaths include a woman in her 50s from Irving, a woman in her 60s from Grand Prairie, a man in his 60s from Mesquite, two women in their 80s from Dallas and a man in his 50s from Mesquite.
County Judge Clay Jenkins tweeted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that Texas keep bars closed particularly in counties where there are colleges because that’s where young people gather.
“I encourage Governor Abbott as he contemplates moves in reopening to follow the recommendations that the CDC made directly to him regarding bars and to keep the mask mandate in place,” Jenkins said.
