Denton County reports 5 COVID deaths; Texas’ data glitch creates most cases in a month

Denton County reported five more coronavirus deaths and 171 cases on Tuesday.

It’s the most deaths reported in the county since eight were reported a week ago.

It’s the most new cases since 188 on July 31. Of the new cases, 77 are unreported cases from earlier this summer. The Texas Department of State Health Services discovered a glitch in its data reporting system that left many cases unreported as far back as March.

Of Tuesday’s reported cases, 94 are active cases, according to Dr. Matt Richardson, Denton County Public Health director.

The latest COVID-19 deaths are all men: one in his 50s in Lewisville, three in their 60s in Denton, Krugerville, and Little Elm, and one over 80 in Corinth.

Denton County has confirmed 9,406 COVID-19 cases, including 98 deaths and 7,199 recoveries.

“We ask for your thoughts and prayers for the families and friends of these five individuals,” Denton County Judge Andy Eads said in a release. “We ask for you to continue wearing masks, hand-washing, and social distancing, to help slow the spread of COVID-19 within Denton County.”
