These COVID face masks will get you big discounts at Fort Worth businesses

Fort Worth’s transit agency is celebrating the opening of a new service in the city’s Near Southside by giving away pandemic face masks to customers.

Trinity Metro employees began giving away the masks Friday, and will continue to do so while supplies last, on the agency’s Zipzone routes in the Near Southside. That neighborhood includes the city’s medical district and popular Magnolia Avenue area.

The masks are black and feature the Trinity Metro logo and the word Zipzone in white letters.

Zipzone is a service that picks up passengers in a given area — the Near Southside, in this case — and connects them to a nearby bus stop or train station. It’s a way to help transit riders navigate the “last mile” of their journey, transit advocates say. Zipzone fares are normally $3, although the service is free through Aug. 31 on the Near Southside.

Businesses across the city are offering discounts for customers who wear the masks. For example, customers wearing the Zipzone mask can get 20% off at Black Cat Pizza or Stir Crazy Baked Goods, or a free hummus, babaganouj or muhumarra and pita bread with purchase of an entree at Chadra Mezza and Grill.

Face masks are required on public transportation in Tarrant County.

Councilwoman Ann Zadeh, whose district includes the Near Southside, tried out the Zipzone service Friday morning and livestreaming the event on her Facebook page..
