Denton County reports surge in coronavirus cases for 3rd consecutive day, passes 2,000
Denton County has reported a three-day surge in coronavirus cases, including 74 on Friday.
The county hadn’t reported more than 55 cases in a day during the pandemic until 82 were reported on Wednesday. The county reported 87 on Thursday. It’s by far the county’s largest three-day total during the pandemic. Until this week, the county had reported more than 45 cases three times since March 27.
Denton County has confirmed 2,054 COVID-19 cases, including 36 deaths and 1,028 recoveries. The last pandemic-related death was reported June 10.
Free drive-thru COVID-19 testing
Denton County Public Health is offering a free drive-thru COVID-19 testing center from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the University of North Texas’ Union Circle parking garage, located at 350 S. Welch Street in Denton.
Eligible residents include those who have had COVID-19 symptoms within the past week, essential employees, 60 years and older, and anyone who has had contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19. Residents must pre-register for the test by calling 940-349-2585.
