Tarrant County passes 6,000 total coronavirus cases with 88 new cases Saturday

Tarrant County passed 6,000 coronavirus cases Saturday, with officials announcing 88 more cases that bring the total to 6,073.

Officials also announced two more deaths, both women in their 80s with underlying health conditions. One woman was a Fort Worth resident and the other lived in Arlington.

A total of 176 Tarrant County residents have died of coronavirus-related illnesses, according to data from the public health department. There have been 2,566 recoveries.

The county has continued to report a steady stream of coronavirus cases, even as more summer destinations like amusement parks are preparing to open back up. Officials announced 122 new cases on Friday, 102 on Thursday and 138 on Wednesday, which was the largest single-day total in more than a week.

Community spread of the virus continues to be substantial, according to the county public health website.

Male residents have made up for 55 percent of coronavirus cases in the county and 58 percent of deaths, according to the health department data. And although residents 65 and older have made up only 16 percent of cases, they have accounted for 67 percent of the deaths.

Fort Worth has had 3,138 coronavirus cases and 107 deaths, the data shows.
