Tarrant County reports 83 more coronavirus cases, 6 deaths

Tarrant County officials reported on Saturday that another 83 residents have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and six more residents have died from it.

There have now been more than 100 COVID-19 deaths in Tarrant County, with a total of 101, according to data from Tarrant County Public Health. There have been a total of 3,210 cases and 779 recoveries.

The six people whose deaths were reported on Saturday include five Fort Worth residents, officials said in a news release — a man in his 70s, amwoman in her 70s, a man in his 80s and two women in their 80s. An Arlington man in his 60s also died.

They all had underlying conditions.

Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said in the release it’s sad to have to report new deaths.

“This virus continues to take a toll in our community,” he said.

He noted that residents should continue to stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing in public spaces and wash hands often. This comes as Gov. Greg Abbott has eased restrictions across the state, and many businesses like hair salons have opened for business.

Saturday marked the first time in three days the county hasn’t set a new single-day high of new cases, after officials reported 171 cases on Friday and 150 cases on Thursday, which was a revised number. The 321 cases over Thursday and Friday make up the highest two-day total.

Community spread in Tarrant County continues to be substantial, according to the public health department.

Men and women each make up half of all COVID-19 cases, but men have accounted for 60 percent of deaths, according to data from the public health department. People age 65 or older have made up only about 19 percent of all cases but about 65 percent of all deaths.

There were 237 confirmed COVID-19-occupied beds in Fort Worth hospitals as of Saturday, the data shows. There were also 2,211 available beds and 444 available ventilators.
