Frontier Airlines will check passengers’ temperatures before flights. How will it work?

Frontier Airlines passengers will soon undergo temperature checks before boarding their flights.

The company announced Thursday that it plans to screen travelers starting June 1.

Before getting on a plane, a touchless thermometer will monitor the temperature of each passenger and employee, Frontier Airlines said in a news release. Anyone with a temperature that’s 100.4 degrees or higher won’t be allowed to get on board that day, officials say.

“The health and safety of everyone flying Frontier is paramount and temperature screenings add an additional layer of protection for everyone onboard,” CEO Barry Biffle said in the release.

Frontier Airlines is the first U.S. carrier to announce temperature checks for passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic, USA Today and other news outlets report.

Fever is one of the symptoms of the coronavirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To help stop the spread of the disease, health officials encourage people to wear face coverings.

Frontier Airlines already announced it was requiring customers to wear face masks, a plan that was set to go in effect Friday.
