‘Baby Yoda’ meth pipe, burial site trespass and coronavirus claim led to Texas arrest
A trespassing couple was caught digging on a Native American burial site in Texas, authorities say.
Their unusual arrest included a “Baby Yoda” meth pipe and an apparent attempt to infect officers with coronavirus, according to a news release from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
A game warden received a game camera photo that showed a man and woman digging at the archaeological site in Hays County. The warden found the couple at a large hole previously dug by trespassers.
The man emerged from the hole and told the game warden he wasn’t searching for arrowheads — and that he “hates diggers.” The couple said they were on a date.
The game warden found the glass pipe resembling “Baby Yoda,” the popular character in Disney’s “The Mandalorian” after putting the husband and wife in a patrol vehicle, officials said. The husband said he used the pipe to smoke CBD oils, but the game warden found small and clear white crystal that looked like meth, according to the news release.
The game warden put the pipe on the hood of the vehicle while talking to the wife and returned to find it was gone. The man told the game warden he didn’t know where it went before the game warden spotted it smashed in a fresh footprint on the ground, officials said.
The game warden then reported finding four Native American artifacts stuffed in gardening gloves inside the wife’s purse, officials said.
San Marcos police officers arrived at the scene to take the couple to jail. During the trip, the husband leaned forward and “aggressively coughed” at the officers after telling them he had coronavirus, police said.
The couple was charged with criminal trespass and violations of the antiquities code. The husband was charged with possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and harassment of a public servant.
