Dallas County reports 19th coronavirus-related death, 106 new cases

A Garland man in his 50s is the 19th coronavirus-related death in Dallas County.

The county has 106 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total Tuesday to 1,261.

The latest deceased victim had underlying medical conditions.

The slew of new cases and the 19th death come a day after the county announced 43 new cases on Monday. County Judge Clay Jenkins warned the dip in additional confirmed patients was likely due to multiple labs not reporting test results on Sunday.

For the third consecutive week, the total patients receiving intensive care exceeded the peak week of ICU patients from influenza season in Dallas County in 2019-2020. A total of 119 patients have received ICU treatment, including 72 who needed mechanical ventilation.

Eighty-one patients are residents of long-term care facilities, including three deaths.

Almost 40% of the patients are between the age of 41 and 60, 35% are 18 to 40, and 26% are 61 or older. Just 1% of patients are 17 or younger.
