Another Fort Worth area suburb, county issue stay-at-home orders due to coronavirus

Cleburne and Johnson County are joining a growing list of places with stay-at-home orders.

Johnson County and Cleburne officials issued the orders Friday, and they take effect at midnight.

On Wednesday, Burleson also issued a stay-at-home order which continues until April 13.

Cleburne mayor Scott Cain said the order is in effect until April 14, but it could be extended or the restrictions could be lessened depending on the spread of coronavirus cases.

Johnson County’s order is in effect until April 7.

Cleburne does not have any positive COVID-19 cases, Cain said.

People can leave their homes for activities including traveling to and from work, getting groceries, exercising as long as they practice social distancing of six feet and caring for a family member or pet outside of the home.

Cain said there is a lot of confusion over which businesses are considered essential, and he said he has received many phone calls from business owners.

“Assume they are essential and then close what had to be closed,” he said.

“The whole country is looking at what we’re losing, but we’re gaining. We are disconnecting for a few weeks and reconnecting with our families. I’m encouraging Cleburne and everyone to spend quality time with your families,” Cain said.

A Johnson County man in his late 60s with underlying health conditions died of COVID-19 at a California hospital after he contracted the disease while on a cruise ship, according to officials.
