Five Dallas County jail inmates test positive for coronavirus, officials say

A Dallas County official said Wednesday morning that a Dallas County inmate had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the infection that causes COVID-19. That inmate is not currently housed in the Dallas County Jail.

After an investigation, county officials announced at a news conference Wednesday evening that four more inmates who were in quarantine have tested positive.

It is not known whether the inmate who had the first known case is hospitalized or how the inmate was exposed to the disease.

More information is not available at this time but may be released later, according to Jasmyn Carter, Dallas County Jail spokeswoman.
