Nine additional cases of coronavirus were reported in Dallas County on Tuesday, bringing the county’s confirmed cases up to 28, officials said.

The patients include two women in their 20s, one man in his 30s, one man and one woman in their 40s, two women in their 50s, one man in his 60s and one woman in her 70s. Eight of the people are from the city of Dallas and one is from Irving.

Five of the patients were hospitalized, with three being treated in critical care units. The four others were self-isolating at home.

Five of the patients likely got the virus from community spread, and one case is related to international travel, Dallas County officials said in a press release.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins emphasized that the testing data of COVID-19 is “behind the situation on the ground” in a press release. In a press conference Monday, he said reported numbers of the virus are about five days behind the actual cases.

“We must replace selfishness with sacrifice if we are to protect our seniors and most vulnerable amongst us,” Jenkins said in the press release. “Don’t give into fear, rather have faith in the science, the science that will be your road map to keeping you and your family safe. Replace panic with prayer and personal responsibility. We can do this North Texas, but it takes all of us. The life you save may be your Nana’s.”

Dallas County closed bars, dine-in restaurants, gyms, health clubs, theaters and other businesses on Monday to prevent the spread of the virus.
