Looking for a roomy apartment? Come to Fort Worth where they are big and getting bigger

Across the country, apartment sizes are shrinking to a historic low. But that’s not the case in Texas.

Of the largest cities in Texas, only Plano saw a decrease in the average size of apartments in the last decade, according to a new analysis by apartment listing service RentCafe.

Meanwhile, apartments in Fort Worth increased by an average of 41 square feet or 5%.

Lubbock topped the list of Texas cities and was ranked sixth nationally. In Lubbock, apartments increased by 179 square feet or 17% in the last 10 years.

The average size of new apartments nationwide fell by 54 square feet in the last decade, and 2022 showed the largest year-over-year drop of 30 square feet. The report attributes the the drop to an increase in studio and one-bedroom apartments coming online last year.

According to the report, the average size of new apartments in Fort Worth is 910 square feet.
