Lowe’s is celebrating its 100th anniversary by giving back to communities across the country.

Through Lowe’s Hometowns, the home improvement giant will fund nearly 1,800 projects, including 100 signature projects chosen from nominations, over five years.

The program aims to provide a boost to communities and local organizations as they weather the impacts of the pandemic by revitalizing spaces like neighborhood housing, parks and community centers.

Queer Eye designer Bobby Berk will execute this year’s program and design one of the projects.

“As I travel across the country, I’ve seen how now, more than ever, communities need our help,” Berk said in a statement. “Whether it is a safe space for kids to play after school or a training center to help job seekers get back on their feet, the projects we’re taking on with Lowe’s Hometowns will have real meaning for those in need. I’m excited to partner with Lowe’s and get to know the incredible people and stories behind the projects that we’ll take on.”

Last year, Lowe’s Hometowns completed eight projects in Texas totaling $668,000, including a $150,000 revamp of the Fort Worth Association of Federated Women’s Clubs on the city’s Historic Southside.

The project renovated the building and provided new computer systems, more comfortable seating, a commercial grade stove and kitchen appliances, new landscaping and outdoor furnishings. It was nominated by Coletta Strickland, president of the Fort Worth/Tarrant County Minority Leaders and Citizens Council.

Since the project was part of Lowe’s NFL Home Team program, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup participated in a volunteer event for the building renovation.

Nominations for this year’s program will be accepted through lowes-homestowns.com until March 28.
