Huge liquor distributor lays off hundreds of North Texas employees

Republic National Distributing Company is laying off 689 workers from its home base in Grand Prairie, according to a WARN Act listing.

It is one of the largest alcohol distributing companies in the nation, according to the Charlotte Observer. The company recently sold 11 of its locations, including the Texas locations, to Reyes Beverage Group.

Reyes Beverage Group said it has zero layoffs planned. With its acquisition of RNDC on May 29, the group said it hired over 5,200 former Republic employees.

“This milestone is the culmination of months of hard work and reflects our commitment to growth, expansion and investing in the future. It’s time to start a new chapter together — one that builds on RBG’s strengths, with the talent and expertise of our newest team members,” Tom Day, chief executive officer of Reyes Beverage Group said.

Under this restructuring Republic National plans to lay off 1,903 employees in Texas, and it plans to close warehouses in Charlotte and Raleigh, according to a work force warning summary list for North Carolina. RNDC did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
