$13 million boutique hotel opens in Fort Worth’s South Main Village. Take a look
Tucked away in a corner of Fort Worth’s South Main Village, a new hotel experience is now open.
Hotel SOMA, at 454 Cleveland Ave. just west of South Main Street, is a boutique hotel with 31 tiny home casitas and four custom-built Airstream units.
“The biggest thing for us was location, finding something that is walkable to all of the types of spots you would want to go when you’re visiting,” said owner and developer Will Moncrief of Fort Worth. Moncrief is not related to the well-known oil and ranching family.
Moncrief developed the hotel along Sidecar Hospitality Partners — which he founded in 2020 — after acquiring land in 2022 and 2023. The project cost $13 million, but Moncrief declined to provide a breakdown for that cost. The project did not use funding from the city of Fort Worth, Moncrief said.
“We were first time developers, so [there were] a lot of learning lessons in the process,” Moncrief said.
Each of the casita units are two-story, 500 square-foot loft-style units with a kitchenette.
The casitas circle around a shared courtyard, complete with comfy chairs and yard games for guests.
The hotel opened on May 1 with the casita units available. The Airstream units will be available in June, along with an Airstream bar and a merchandise store. Rooms available in June and July cost between roughly $160 and $350 per night.
Each casita also has rotating art pieces, created by primarily Texas artists and sourced by the William Campbell Gallery, that are available for purchase. Fort Worth artists Jan Riggins and Jay Wilkinson also painted murals for the space.
The hotel has a residency program and a quarterly art show, Moncrief said, to help bolster Near Southside’s vibrant arts scene. The next art show will be in September, and the hotel’s website will have a section to submit an artist to be considered for the art program.
“The goal is to be able to create something where you’re able to walk out and experience a vibrant, fun city, and then you’re able to retreat back when you want to, to a fully privatized experience that feels like you’re not in Fort Worth,” Moncrief said.
Sidecar also operates the Rambler Inn, another boutique hotel at 300 East Front St. in Arlington that has 24 “outlaw-inspired suites.”
Another Sidecar boutique hotel is coming to Arlington, Moncrief said, with a targeted opening date of March or April 2027.
Hotel Soma, Moncrief said, is a tribute to the spirit of South Main Street – even down to its very name — “Soma” is short for “South Main.”
“It’s so cool to see more and more new businesses popping up and see more of this community that’s been here for a little bit reaching out to help, and finding different ways and strategizing about marketing, so we’ve been extremely blessed and grateful to be a part of it,” Moncrief said.
