American Airlines cuts some Fort Worth management staff after Q3 loss

American Airlines is cutting jobs at its Fort Worth headquarters in a bid to get more efficient.

The small reduction will help the company right-size for the work its doing today, communications director Jermaine Spight said in an email to the Star-Telegram.

“We remain focused on continuing to invest in areas that support American’s long-term business objectives, and these targeted investments will be made thoughtfully to position our airline for continued success,” Spight said.

The announcement comes after the Fort Worth-based air carrier reported a $114 million loss in its Q3 earnings report. That’s slightly less than the $149 million loss from the same period in 2024, however, the company has slower revenue growth in 2025 compared to 2024.

Through the first three quarters of 2025, American has seen a net gain of $12 million compared to $256 million through the same period in 2024.

The company has roughly 35,000 employees in the Metroplex, and contributes roughly $43 billion annually to the Texas economy, according to a January 2024 press release celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary.
