GM Financial, based in Fort Worth, has earned a prestigious Pentagon award
GM Financial, whose headquarters in Fort Worth is one of the largest employers in Tarrant County, will receive this week the U.S. government’s highest award for support of employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
Only 15 employers in the country are receiving The Freedom Award this year. Two others are also in Texas: Coppell ISD and Air Aviation of Allen.
The Pentagon program that gives the honors is the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR.
GM Financial is the wholly owned captive finance subsidiary of General Motors, with operations in North America, South America and Asia. The company provides retail financing and lease programs as well as commercial lending products to dealers.
The company has more than 4,000 employees in Tarrant County, according to 2023 data.
Nearly half of the nation’s armed forces are National Guard and Reserve service members. ESGR received 1,626 nominations from service-member employees for The Freedom Award.
The Freedom Award began in 1996 under the auspices of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to recognize exceptional employer support, with 370 honorees to date.
“The recipients distinguished themselves by going far beyond the requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, or USERRA, to support their National Guard and Reserve employees,” the agency said.
