A luxury hotel at DFW Airport will be ‘transformed’ by $34 million renovation
Grand Hyatt DFW announced Wednesday that the luxury hotel that sits atop a terminal at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will undergo a full renovation to its guest rooms, restaurant, lounges and lobby.
The $34 million project is scheduled to begin in July and be done by the end of the year. Located in DFW’s Terminal D, the 12-story Grand Hyatt opened in 2005 and is one of three Hyatt brands on airport grounds.
The renovations will refresh the entire property and add 17 rooms to the hotel, bringing total accommodations to 315 rooms and suites. Redesigned rooms will feature colors and other design elements inspired by the Texas landscape, as well as new technology to improve the guest experience. The renovation of guest rooms alone is expected to cost $16 million, according to state records.
A new seasonal menu at the DFW airport restaurant
A “reimagined” Grand Met restaurant and lounge, located inside the hotel, will grow guest capacity and get new menus.
“Keeping with the elegance of a jet-set lifestyle,” the hotel announced, “the updated menu will serve international and modern cuisine with fresh ingredients sourced locally – creating a dining experience like no other.”
New meeting and event space will include an executive boardroom and an indoor/outdoor rooftop area overlooking DFW’s runways.
“The remodeled Grand Hyatt – already known as one of the premier airport hotel experiences – will complement the ongoing enhancements and expansions across the airport as we create a smooth and enjoyable experience for our guests,” said airport CEO Sean Donohue.
This hotel at DFW airport was unusual when it opened
When the Grand Hyatt DFW opened in summer 2005 atop the newly opened Terminal D, it was one of only two examples in North America of a major airport owning a hotel on its property, the Star-Telegram reported at the time.
It was conceived as a boutique hotel aimed at well-heeled business executives who were flying in for small meetings.
The Grand Hyatt’s remodel is the latest in a slew of construction taking place at DFW. Work is underway on the expansion of Terminal A and renovation of Terminal C. Construction is also taking place on DFW’s future Terminal F with 31 gates, which is expected to open in 2027. Improvements to roads throughout DFW are also being made.
The world’s third-busiest airport, over 87.8 million travelers passed through DFW in 2024. Spanning 27 square miles, the airport is larger than Manhattan Island.
