DFW airport keeps its status as one of the world’s busiest. Here’s how it ranks

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has kept its status as one of the world’s busiest airports for the second year in a row.

Over 87.8 million passengers passed through DFW in 2024, the third-highest number of passengers globally, according to Airports Council International. The world’s busiest airports were Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with over 108 million passengers, and Dubai International Airport, with more than 92.3 million travelers.

Passenger volume at DFW was up 7.4% from 2023, and 19% from 2019 levels.

“DFW continues to experience unprecedented growth as we near serving 90 million passengers annually,” said the airport’s CEO Sean Donohue, in a statement. “Our continued place among the world’s busiest airports reflects the strength of this region, our airline partners and the intentional investments we have made to operate an efficient and innovative facility for our partners and customers alike.”

Terminal F, which will be DFW’s sixth terminal, is under construction. The $1.6 billion project will add 15 gates to the airport and is expected to open in 2027.

Terminals A and C are also being renovated. The $3 billion overhaul of Terminal C, which will give it a new look and add more gates, is expected to be done in 2030. Five gates will be added to Terminal A.

DFW is home to Fort Worth-based American Airlines’ largest hub. The airport offers service to over 260 destinations, 73 of which are international.
