$165 million food processing plant set to bring 450 jobs to this Fort Worth suburb

SPC Group, owner of the fast-growing bakery-and-cafe chain Paris Baguette, is bringing its first North American food manufacturing plant — along with hundreds of jobs — to Burleson.

The city of Burleson announced the news on Jan. 28. Although it didn’t provide a date for the project’s groundbreaking, the 267,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed by late 2027. It will be in the Highpoint Business Park in south Burleson off Interstate 35W, near Venus, Alvarado and Keene.

The move will create 450 jobs along with boosting Burleson and Johnson County tax revenues, according to Burleson’s economic development office. SPC Group pledged an initial investment of $165 million, with Burleson and Johnson County contributing approximately $10 million. When asked for an estimate of the facility’s overall economic impact on the region, city of Burleson employees declined to speculate.

While Paris Baguette may not yet be a household name in the U.S., the Korea-based SPC Group is focused on rapid expansion of their casual cafes, which serve coffee, tea, pastries, sandwiches and other light fare. Since entering the U.S. market in 2005, Paris Baguette has expanded to 210 locations in North America. Locally, there are franchises in Grand Prairie, Coppell, Lewisville, Carrollton, Frisco and Allen, with additional locations in Austin, the Woodlands, Katy and Houston.

SPC Group plans on reaching 1,000 franchises in North America in the next five years, and the Burleson plant will play a key role in that growth, enabling the company to more quickly distribute its products on this side of the Pacific. Burleson will also serve as a jumping-off point for Latin American expansion.

In addition to manufacturing products for Paris Baguette cafes, the facility will distribute products for bread maker Samlip, a SPC Group subsidiary.
