Clearfork’s developer wants to build a grocery store in its next big project in Fort Worth
The plans by Clearfork’s owners for a new development along Chisholm Trail Parkway at Oakmont Boulevard include a grocery store, according to city records.
The proposed project would also include other commercial and retail businesses, and possibly residential housing in the future. The site is more than 108 acres of former ranchland behind the Walmart Supercenter at Oakmont and Hulen Street.
Cassco Development Co., which built the luxury mixed-use shopping and dining hub Clearfork about seven years ago, did not respond to a request for comment this week. The company is the development arm of the Edwards family, whose ranch once spanned thousands of acres dating back to the mid-1800s.
In September, the company said it was too early to reveal details about the Oakmont Boulevard site.
“We are excited about the opportunities for this property,” Paxton Motheral, Cassco’s vice president, wrote in a short statement to the Star-Telegram. “However, there is a tremendous amount of work to do before we are ready to make a formal announcement.”
The mention of an unnamed grocery store was included in the developer’s request to rezone the property, which the city’s Zoning Commission approved Wednesday. The application said the proposed development would bolster Fort Worth’s commercial tax base and “buffer” residential areas from the busy Chisholm Trail Parkway.
The closest existing grocery store is an Albertsons less than a mile to the west along Bryant Irvin Road, and an Aldi on Hulen Street. H-E-B owns land about five miles to the south on McPherson Boulevard but has yet to announce any plans for it.
