A TCU alum and board member has been named the new president & CEO of Nike
Nike, Inc.’s new leader is no stranger to Fort Worth.
The sportswear titan announced Elliott Hill will be its new president and CEO on Thursday. He will assume the role on Oct. 14. Hill has over 30 years of experience at Nike.
An alum of Texas Christian University, Hill has sat on the university’s board of trustees since 2014. Born and raised in Austin, Hill graduated from TCU with a bachelor’s degree in kinesthesiology in 1986.
Hill later attended Ohio University, where he earned a master’s degree in sports administration. There he met Tim Joyce, a former Nike executive. After badgering Joyce for six months, Hill was offered an internship at Nike in 1988. Over the next three decades, he worked his way from sales roles to senior leadership positions in Europe and North America. The company says Hill was responsible for helping grow the business to more than $39 billion before retiring in 2020, when he was a president leading commercial and marketing operations for Nike and Jordan Brand.
Hill’s predecessor, John Donahoe, was named CEO in 2020. During his time at the helm of Nike, Donahoe focused on growing online and direct-to-consumer sales, but was criticized for what some perceived as a lack of innovation regarding new products.
Hill said in a company statement that Nike “has always been a core part of who I am, and I’m ready to help lead it to an even brighter future.”
“Together with our talented teams, I look forward to delivering bold, innovative products, that set us apart in the marketplace and captivate consumers for years to come,” Hill said.
Nike has struggled to outshine new competitors, like Hoka and On, in recent years. The company lowered its fiscal year 2025 sales forecast in June, triggering a sharp drop in stock price. One day after Hill was announced as the incoming CEO, Nike’s stock price jumped, signaling investors’ renewed faith in the company.
Nike saw revenue of over $51 billion during its 2024 fiscal year.
