Was your DFW Airport or Love Field flight canceled by Hurricane Ian? Here’s what to do
Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida on Wednesday, causing many flight delays and cancellations for North Texas airports.
The hurricane was classified as a Category 4 storm when it made landfall Wednesday afternoon, with wind gusts topping 150 mph and storm surges flooding coastal cities in southern and eastern Florida. More than 2.6 million Florida homes were without power Thursday morning.
As flooding and strong winds wreaked havoc on structures in the hurricane’s path, many Florida airports took precautions, canceling flights and delaying travelers.
Tampa International Airport, where officials had prepared for a major impact before the storm hit farther south, suspended operations at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday. The Tampa airport said there will be no departing flights through Thursday, according to a CNN report.
The two local North Texas airports — DFW International and Dallas Love Field — have seen numerous cancellations throughout Wednesday night and Thursday, according to Flight Aware.
Over a dozen American Airlines flights from DFW International to Orlando International Airport have been canceled, extending all the way until Friday. Over 400 flights have been canceled at the Orlando airport, along with over 150 at Tampa International Airport, according to Flight Aware.
The same can be said for Southwest Airlines flights arriving or departing at Love Field. Flights to Orlando, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay, have all been canceled for Thursday and some of Friday out of DFWs.
