Amazon working on third Fort Worth-area fulfillment center
Amazon.com’s expansion in North Texas will include another Fort Worth fulfillment center, this one near Meacham Airport.
The online retail giant declined to provide details for the facility, to be located in the Railhead Industrial Park. But according to a construction permit filed with the state, the building will have “ambient storage, refrigerated storage and dock, freezer storage” and other office areas.
“This facility will support Amazon’s expanding customer fulfillment operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth region,” said Amazon spokeswoman Ashley Robinson, declining to provide more information.
The project will cost $8.2 million to renovate an existing building on 4601 Gold Spike Dr. and should be completed by August. The 520,230 square-foot building, sold in 2014, was originally built for ConAgra Foods, which halted construction on the factory in 2007.
According to the construction permit, the facility will be used by Amazon Fresh, a division that offers next-day and early morning delivery of fresh grocery items and household items. Amazon Fresh is currently offered in Seattle, southern and northern California and New York.
Last month, Amazon announced it was opening a fulfillment center in north Fort Worth at 15201 Heritage Parkway, north of Alliance Airport. That facility, which will ship smaller items such as books, electronics and toys, is one million square feet and will employ an additional 1,000 full-time workers.
It opened a fulfillment center in Haslet in 2013, which currently employs 3,000 full-time employees, and has others in Coppell and south Dallas.
