Death and taxes are inevitable. We know that.

But now it seems that tax day deals and freebies are nearly as certain.

Retailers have climbed aboard this annual bandwagon, hoping to soothe our collective anxiety over paying Uncle Sam, all while squeezing out a few extra sales. (Hey, it’s the American way!)

This year, we get a little extension on paying our taxes because Emancipation Day fell on April 15, which means the IRS gives us until Monday, April 18, to file. That’s also the day you’ll find most of the tax day deals.

First, the freebies

World of Beer: Nothing hits the spot after a tough tax day quite like an ice cold beer, so World of Beer is conducting a Tax Day draught giveaway. Call it a “refund” -- one free beer for anyone who stops by Monday. Locations in Fort Worth, Arlington and Plano.

Hard Rock Cafe wants you to Sing for your Supper. (Isn’t it enough we paid our taxes!) On April 18, you can get a free Local Legendary Burger if you belt out a tune on the cafe stage. Might we suggest Taxman by The Beatles, which turns 50 this year.

Great American Cookies is rolling in the dough, which is why they can dish out a free chocolate chip cookie to anyone who stops by on Tax Day. You’ll find the shops in the Hulen and Ridgmar malls, Grapevine Mills and The Parks at Arlington, among others.

Kona Ice knows you need to chill out after mailing that fat tax check, so the island-themed food truck will be offering free cups of tropical shaved ice from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at University Park Village in Fort Worth.

Planet Fitness has your back. That’s why they want to give you a free hydromassage on tax day. Go to PlanetFitness.com to get a coupon on April 18 and you can redeem it any of the many DFW locations April 18-22.

Cinnabon has a sweet deal. Get two free Cinnabon bites on tax day. Locations throughout DFW, many of which located inside Schlotzsky’s, and speaking of ...

Schlotzsky’s is treating taxpayers to a free Original Sandwich (with the purchase of a 32 oz. drink and a bag of chips) on April 18. The Original includes ham, salami, melted cheddar, mozzarella and much more. Schlotzsky’s has locations all over DFW.

Staples and its chief rival Office Depot/Office Max both offer coupons for 5-lbs. of free shredding. Who needs all that evidence? Especially if auditors come knocking.

Tax day discounts

Sonic: America’s drive-in is grilling up half-price cheeseburgers all day April 18. And they even whipped up one of their cool commercials to go along with it.

Buca di Beppo, the Italian restaurant chain with locations in Southlake and Dallas, will shave 18 percent off your meal through April 18, as long as you use a Tax Day coupon. Cannolis for everyone!

Outback Steakhouse: The Aussie steakhouse is slicing 15 percent off your check through April 18, as long as you produce a coupon found on its website. G’day, mate.

Chuck E Cheese: Load up your dependents and chow down on Chuck E’s BOGO deal. Buy a large thin and crispy pizza and you’ll get a second one free.

Chili’s: Get the signature Presidente Margarita, with Patron and Presidente Brandy, for $5 on April 18. Cheers to el Presidente!

Boston Market: A half chicken meal with two sides and cornbread, plus a regular drink, is $10.40 on April 18. Clever promotion, with the 1040 price and all, except the half chicken meal with a drink is only $10.49, plus tax, every other day of the year, so it’s a pretty poultry savings. (Misspelled pun intended.)

Happy Tax Day.
