GM Financial breaks ground for servicing center in San Antonio
Fort Worth-based GM Financial broke ground Monday for a new servicing center in San Antonio that will become the company’s fifth center in North America.
The 100,000-square-foot facility will be built on 13.8 acres off Raymond E. Stotzer Freeway at the intersection of Westover Link and North Ellison Drive. The company plans to begin occupying the building in spring 2017.
GM Financial, the captive finance unit of General Motors, has been in growth mode fueled by record auto sales and an expansion into prime lending products. Last year, GM Financial added nearly 1,000 workers in Tarrant County, mostly at its south Arlington campus, where it added a third building in a $30 million expansion. The company has more than 3,700 employees in Tarrant County.
The groundbreaking ceremony in San Antonio was attended by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The project received a $2.5 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund, as well as tax breaks from the city of San Antonio and Bexar County.
“I am proud that GM Financial has chosen San Antonio as the site of its next financial servicing center, creating nearly 500 jobs and investing tens of millions of dollars in the Texas economy,” Abbott said.
GM Financial CEO Dan Berce said GM is grateful for its strong ties with the state of Texas, where it employs more than 10,000 people.
In addition to Arlington, GM Financial operates servicing centers in Chandler, Ariz.; Huntersville, N.C., near Charlotte; and in Ontario, Canada.
