RadioShack launches Ncredible products by Nick Cannon
RadioShack launched the first of a new Ncredible line of consumer electronics products on Tuesday, developed in conjunction with actor/comedian Nick Cannon.
The Fort Worth-based retailer, which is moving forward under new ownership after a trip through bankruptcy last year, introduced Bluetooth headphones available in red and black. Including a case and cable, they will retail for $129.
In an appearance on CNBC, Cannon — named RadioShack’s chief creative officer in December — said the company plans more products aimed at helping budding entertainers in music and film. Future products will include DJ and music creation products.
Cannon said he has a real affinity for the brand, having started going to RadioShack when he was about 8 and buying his first microphone, mixer and keyboard there.
“To me, it never stopped being cool,” said Cannon, known for hosting America’s Got Talent and producing several TV shows and projects for MTV, Nickelodeon and the Cartoon Network. He was also married to singer Mariah Carey, but they are getting divorced.
The company kicked off the product launch at a New York City store in Harlem, joined by guests from the Harlem School for the Arts and NY Youth Against Violence.
RadioShack brought Cannon on as a celebrity executive late last year to draw new customers to its stores. Standard General, a New York hedge fund, purchased more than 1,700 RadioShack stores out of bankruptcy last spring and then bought the chain’s name from another creditor. The electronics chain has shrunk from more than 4,000 locations when it entered bankruptcy.
Last month, RadioShack’s new chief executive, Ron Garriques, resigned to pursue other interests. Chief Financial Officer Gordon Briscoe was named interim CEO until a replacement is hired by the board.
