Amazon is hiring in Haslet.

The e-commerce giant, which opened a fulfillment center in the Alliance area in 2013, said Wednesday that it’s adding more than 500 full-time positions at the 1.2-million-square-foot facility “to meet growing customer demand.”

The center, along Westport Parkway between Interstate 35W and Farm Road 156, has “hundreds” of full-time employees, as well as more seasonal workers, spokeswoman Ashley Robinson said. She declined to give the exact number of workers.

The fulfillment center handles small items such as books, DVDs and beauty products. A second fulfillment center, in Coppell, handles medium to larger items, such as televisions and kayaks.

The centers, including a third in Schertz near San Antonio, were opened after a 2012 settlement with Texas over unpaid sales taxes. As part of the deal, Amazon agreed to pay the state sales tax, create 2,500 jobs and invest at least $200 million in Texas over four years.

The Haslet center is one of 10 where Amazon has deployed Kiva Systems robots to help move products to be packaged for shipping.

Amazon said its full-time employees receive “competitive” hourly wages and comprehensive benefits, including healthcare, 401(k) plans and company stock awards.
