Actor/comedian Nick Cannon, who has a starring role in the new Spike Lee film Chi-Raq opening Friday, may soon be seen on the streets of Fort Worth.
He has been named the Chief Creative Officer for RadioShack. As such, he will be involved in new-product development as well as assist the company in growing its educational and S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives. But how much time will he actually be spending here?
He will maintain an office at RadioShack’s headquarters in Fort Worth and “he’s looking to spend as much time as possible with the [RadioShack] team,” according to Radio Shack’s chief marketing officer, Michael Tatelman.
“RadioShack is a brand that matters,” said Cannon in a news release Wednesday. “As a kid, spending time in my neighborhood RadioShack was invaluable. The maker mentality and educational approach taught me a lot and encouraged me to explore my own creativity. In return, I wanted to give back by fostering creative pursuits in others, and helping kids move to the next level.”

Cannon, who is best known as host of America’s Got Talent and for his marriage and recent divorce from Mariah Carey, said that he became acquainted with RadioShack as an 8-year-old who inherited his grandfather’s stereo.
This marks a bit of good news for the retailer, which has made headlines recently for its bankruptcy and store closures.
In the same release, Tatelman said that the partnership shows that “RadioShack is back.”
