Texas added jobs in September but unemployment rose to 4.2%
AUSTIN The job market bounced back in Texas in September, as the state added 26,600 jobs after a decline in August, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday.
But the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly to reach 4. 2 percent, compares to a nationwide jobless rate last month of 5.1 percent. Statewide unemployment was 4.1 percent during August.
Amarillo had the lowest September unemployment rate across Texas at 3.1 percent. TWC officials say the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the state’s highest jobless figure last month at 7.4 percent.
Unemployment remained steady in Fort Worth-Arlington at 4.1 percent, while the rate in Dallas-Plano-Irving was 3.8 perecent.
Commission officials say Texas employers have added 224,800 jobs in the past year.
