Ikea announced plans today for a store in Grand Prairie near Interstate 20 and State Highway 161, which would be its second in North Texas.
The Swedish home furnishings company said it has submitted plans to the city of Grand Prairie for a 293,000-square-foot store with 1,250 parking spaces. Pending approvals, construction would begin next summer with an opening in the fall of 2017. The company’s other area store is in Frisco, off the Sam Rayburn Tollway near Stonebriar mall.
“We are thrilled with the reception afforded us after entering North Texas more than 10 years ago, so we are excited to submit plans for IKEA Grand Prairie to extend our Dallas-area reach,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea’s U.S. president, in a prepared statement. “This proposed store would complement our Metroplex presence established in Frisco and bring the unique family-friendly shopping experience closer to customers in other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.”
