American Airlines adds flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Mexico in winter 2023
Flights from North Texas to the Caribbean and Latin America will ramp up this winter.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines announced Wednesday its largest-ever winter schedule to international destinations south of the U.S.
Expanded services starting in December will include more flights from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to seven destinations in Mexico. More than 50 flights will depart from DFW to Mexico daily.
DFW Airport will soon see five daily flights to Monterrey and Los Cabos, four daily flights to Puerto Vallarta and daily services to Zacatecas and Zihuatanejo. The airport will also have three weekly flights to Acapulco and four weekly flights to Huatulco.
“This coming winter we’re looking forward to adding more service to the destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean that our customers want to visit, including popular spots like Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana, as well as our newest destination, Tortola,” José Freig, vice president of operations and commercial for Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, said in a release. “We are proud to strengthen our lead as the largest U.S. airline in the region, with more flights and seats to more destinations than any other single carrier or partnership.”
With the upcoming schedule, American will increase service on 23 routes from U.S. airports to Latin America and the Caribbean, a 10% increase in seat capacity compared to the year before. The airline will now operate more than 2,250 U.S. flights each week to 90 destinations in the region.
Nonstop flights to American’s newest destination, Tortola, the most populated island of the British Virgin Islands, will depart two times per day from Miami starting this winter.
Expanded services to Latin American and Caribbean destinations are American Airlines latest response to growing demand for international travel.
The carrier began nonstop flight services from DFW to Rome and Paris this month, meaning American Airlines now has 12 daily flight services to Europe from DFW amid the busy summer travel season. American Airlines had record-breaking operating performance during last month’s Memorial Day weekend and serviced more flights than any other carrier.
DFW Airport and American Airlines also recently announced a $4.8 billion expansion to build a sixth terminal, Terminal F, and renovate the existing Terminal C. The project will span ten years and will add 24 new gates to the airport.
Robert Isom, American Airlines CEO, said in American’s quarterly earnings call in April the airline industry is in an excellent position after the pandemic as travel patterns have evolved.
“Our industry has been through the biggest crisis in its history, and it’s now on the other side,” Isom said.
