Could far north Fort Worth become Tesla country? A distribution center is in the works
Prospective Tesla drivers could soon be able to pick up their new cars closer to home.
Tesla is proposing to build a 53,491 square foot service and sales center near Fossil Creek Boulevard and Interstate 35W in far north Fort Worth, according to an application filed with the city of Fort Worth.
The center would offer maintenance and a place for new owners to pick up their cars after they’ve been delivered from the factory. It will have space for 407 parking stalls, according to the filing.
It’s not clear when this location would open. Neither the company nor a consultant representing Tesla in Fort Worth’s permitting process immediately returned a call and email requesting comment.
The electric car maker is also building a charging station at 1111 Eastchase Parkway, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Unlike other auto makers, Tesla sells its cars directly to consumers rather than partnering with a franchised dealership. Texas law prohibits manufacturers and distributors from selling new motor vehicles directly to Texas consumers, Tesla’s showrooms are a place to see and test drive the car before buying it online.
The new car can be picked up at a distribution center or shipped directly to the owner’s house, according to the company’s website.
This would be Tesla’s second location in Fort Worth after the store and gallery at 275 University Drive just north of the intersection with West Seventh Street.
Tesla also two locations in Dallas, two in Plano and one in Southlake.
