Soon, you can surf in North Texas and grab a beer afterward — all in the same spot
North Texas may be more than 1,000 miles from the ocean surf, but that doesn’t have to stop you from catching some waves soon at a unique amusement complex coming later this summer.
Construction begins soon on Fireside Surf in The Colony, a standing wave facility for novices and experts alike to catch a wave — and a restaurant and bar for everyone else who just wants to watch.
The $4 million project is expected to be completed in early August, according to a notice filed with the state.
The location is 5772 Grandscape Blvd., near Andretti Indoor Karting.
The company’s website says its pool will have “customizable and endless deep-water waves up to 6 feet high.”
“Fireside provides a non-threatening entry point for new surfers, a place to unwind and cruise for casual surfers, and a freestyle playground for experienced, core surfers,” the site says.
It will be “an authentic surf experience,” the company says. “You control the ride with the freedom to advance from knee high to head high waves, on demand. Ready to switch it up? Try Bodyboarding and Body Surfing.”
A bar and restaurant will offer “a perfect perch” overlooking the surf action.
Fireside Surf co-owner Bill Adams told The Colony Courier-Leader that he expects more customers to come to watch rather than to get wet, so there is an emphasis on the food and drinks.
“This is a high-quality venue and what we’re looking for is to be best in class,” Adams told the newspaper. “We want this to be the kind of place where you can watch people surf in an environment where you have a cabana and you can get food and drink.”
Adams is a former Army Green Beret who has developed and owns the iFly indoor skydiving wind tunnels.
