Another low-fare airline is adding a new flight service from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Puerto Rico.

Starting in May, North Texas residents can fly on Spirit Airlines from DFW to Luis Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in suburban San Juan.

Daily flights from DFW to the San Juan area will use an Airbus A320 starting May 5. One-way flights from DFW to SJU can start as low as $59 on less popular mid-week days, but weekend flights are just under $80 as of Feb. 16.

A nonstop flight between DFW and SJU takes about 4 hours and 40 minutes. The daily service departs from DFW at 7:15 a.m. with an arrival around 1 p.m. in San Juan most days. Return flights from Puerto Rico leave San Juan just before 2 p.m. and arrive at DFW at 6 p.m.

The airline also announced new non-stop flights from San Juan to Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Hartford, Connecticut.

“Spirit Airlines has served the Puerto Rican community for more than two decades, offering affordable fares to connect family and friends across the United States,” said Spirit’s vice president of networking planning, John Kirby, said in a statement. “We continue our San Juan growth with five new nonstop routes, reaffirming our commitment to the island and making it even easier to travel more often.”

Last month, Frontier Airlines announced the expansion of its flight service from DFW to Puerto Rico.

Daily flights on Frontier Airlines from DFW to San Juan will start May 4 on an A320 aircraft with flights that cost as low as $69 as of early February.
