Runway now open at DFW Airport after faulty GPS signal prompts temporary closure
Normal operations have resumed for a Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport runway that was closed earlier this week due to an unreliable GPS signal, officials said.
According to reporting from technology news website Ars Technica, the Federal Aviation Administration warned air traffic controllers and flight personnel Monday afternoon about GPS interference covering a 40-mile area near the airport.
Officials temporarily closed one runway and rerouted air traffic to other runways where the signal was not affected.
The FAA said in an emailed statement Thursday that it had “found no evidence of intentional interference.”
According to Ars Technica, the interference lasted two days and then stopped. Common causes, such as military operations in the area, were ruled out.
