Collins Aerospace invests in new Fort Worth-area facility, will create 40 new jobs

Collins Aerospace officials have announced plans to expand their company — from developing a new Landing Systems facility in Tarrant County to expanding carbon brake manufacturing sites in Washington and Colorado.

Work on all of these facilities will cost about $225 million and is needed to meet a growing demand in the industry, according to a statement released Monday morning.

The local site — a new 110,000-square-foot facility on North Beach Street in Haltom City — opened on a limited basis late last year and will ramp up to full capacity in the next few months, company spokesman Al Killeffer said.

It replaces a landing gear facility in Fort Worth that will close in March.

Demand at this new site is growing from military customers such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing Defense, officials say.

Workers here perform wheel and brake maintenance, repair and overhaul operations on commercial, business and military aircraft, as well as working on landing gear assembly.

Officials note that the Tarrant expansion cost several million dollars, will add 40 new local jobs and will boost the amount of floor space the company has here by 30%.

In addition to revamping the Tarrant site, the company is expanding carbon brake facilities in Spokane, Washington, and Pueblo, Colorado.

“As one of the aerospace industry’s leading providers of wheels, brakes and landing gear, we are committed to investing in our business to better serve our customers,” said Ajay Mahajan, a vice president in the Landing Systems division at Collins Aerospace.

Collins Aerospace is part of United Technologies Corp.
