A new 21-room boutique hotel is coming to Fort Worth’s Cultural District in 2020

Last year, Jonathan Morris and his business partner Allen Mederos were brainstorming different business ideas they wanted to pursue, but the one that stuck with them was a boutique hotel.

When Morris travels to other cities and new places, he said, he always wanted to spend time in spaces that reflect a true version of whatever that city is, but Fort Worth doesn’t really have a hotel that accurately reflects the culture of the city.

Enter Hotel Dryce. Using the bones of an old dry ice warehouse, Morris and Mederos will build a three-story, 21-room hotel in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. There will be a lobby bar that will be open to the public as well as guests and a large outdoor courtyard.

Though it’s a small hotel, Morris said he envisions a space that is unique and will become a gathering space for the community as well as a place for visitors to stay.

“There’s not a lot of hotels specifically that are able to tell a story of Fort Worth that connect to the city in a way that I get to on an everyday basis,” Morris said. “We wanted to be able to create something that was small enough to really give us the opportunity to introduce the city to visitors and also create this space that … is a gathering spot for people in Fort Worth.”

Hotel Dryce was rezoned in spring earlier this year, and Fort Construction will begin building early 2020. Bennet Benner Partners are the architects on the project.

Morris said the hope is to open the hotel in late 2020.
